Essential Functions
Under direct supervision, generates G-code programs and operates vertical CNC machines using CAD/CAM software. Work includes assignment planning, layout, set up, operating and making tool adjustments for various types of numerically controlled and computerized machine shop equipment. Works from blueprints, process sheets and sketches to perform production tasks, which may include the cutting and shaping of various materials to precision dimensions. May communicate directly with engineers to understand the purpose of a part assembly. Checks and inspects machining operations against specified tolerances. May identify and repair minor machine malfunctions.

Sets up equipment to perform required machining jobs; machines parts to complex specification; performs inspection on finished product and prepare for next step in process as appropriate; hands off work to next shift operator; follows production schedules to fulfill OTD Requirements; deburs parts with the aid of a microscope.

Technical Skills and Knowledge
Requires strong knowledge of Manufacturing / Programming /Tooling procedures. Must be computer literate with experience using MS Office applications including Excel and Word. Must have the ability to program from AutoCad, MasterCam, SolidWorks or Pro/E models. Must be able to generate G-codes and operate CNC Machine from engineering product designs for manufacturing.

Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment; to create process work instructions ; to read and understand Engineering Models and Blue Print drawings; and to participate in cost reduction and quality improvement activities for new and existing products made in the Machine shop

Requires a 2-year Trade School diploma in machine tool, CNC or equivalent; 3 to 5 years experience in programming and operating vertical CNC machines; 3-5 years experience in machining Torlon or similar materials; and 3-5 years experience in programming using Gibbs CAM software.

Environmental Considerations
Requirs standing for long periods of time and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Incumbent must be able to follow safety procedures and use safety equipment when operating mechanical devices. Must be able and willing to work overtime when necessary. Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening.
