General System Questions
What microchip is used with the L-Series?
The L-Series is designed to work with any standard or customer-designed microfluidic chip. You are only constrained by the physical size and dimensions of the system as to what kind of chip to use. And, we do sell the Micralyne standard capillary electrophoresis chip in 4-port and 8-port configurations for your convenience.
What type of microscope is the system fitted with? (Fluorescence, other?)
Fluorescence is available but not mandatory. The microscope can be upgraded at any time to add fluorescence. We include a GFP Wideband filter cube set with the fluorescence package but others are available for an additional charge.
Is the microscope lit from above or below?
The system can mount an upright microscope that is lit from above.
How many Microport interfaces can be fitted on one system?
We recommend a maximum of 10 Microport interfaces for ease of use.
How are Microport interfaces fitted on a non-Cascade Microtech probe station or a inverted microscope?
The Microport interfaces are mounted on XYZ micropositioners that have a magnetic base.
What kind(s) of camera/framgrabber is/can the system (be) fitted with?
We have qualified the Macrofire Monochrome CD Camera with video/high res image capture software.
What requirements are there on the environment?
The system does not require any in-house facilities (vacuum/air) and can be set up in a lab space similar to where you would mount a microscope.
Is the system cleanroom class 4 (old class 10) compatible?
We have not had the system class 4 certified and do not have current plans on our roadmap.
What flow rates can be administered with the system?
We have qualified the Harvard Apparatus Pump 11 Pico Plus. For detailed specs, please visit www.harvardapparatus.com.
Approximately how long do the EBP electrodes last?
The EBP electrodes performance begins to degrade after approximately 6 months with between 5-10 hours of use per work day.
Physical dimensions
What is the minimum centre-to-centre distance for the Microport™ interfaces?
Side-by-side minimum distance is 4mm. Head-to-head minimum distance is 5mm.
What is the maximum area covered by the Microport interfaces (maximum chip size)?
Maximum experimentation area is 150mm x 150mm.
Flow system
What pressures can the sealing withstand?
200 PSI (13.6 atmos) on glass / 80PSI (5.4 atmos) on PDMS
What chemicals can/can not be used?
Our wetted materials are PEEK(TM), Silicone and Pt. You can check the chemical compatibly of these materials with your reagent at http://www.upchurch.com/ and www.fishersci.com.
Can we use solutions with pH ~ 11?
PEEK is compatible with pH levels 0 – 14. Silicone is compatible with strong bases like ammonia and NaOH, but you can check the compatibility of your specific solution at http://www.upchurch.com/ and http://www.fishersci.com/ or on any chemical supplier web site.
What is the inner/outer diameter of the Microport interfaces?
127um ID / 3mm OD
What is the flow resistance of the probes?
There is not a published spec for flow resistance on PEEK tubing
What is the dead volume?
1.7ul
